In 1986, Athletic Director Lou Piccola and a large number of Xaverian students were interested in revitalizing the Clipper Swim Team.

Mr. Piccola asked Jim D’Ottavio if he would like to become the coach of the team, and the rest, as they say, is history.

On a Friday afternoon at New Utrecht High School, the Clipper Swim Team held it’s first tryouts with over 50 students showing up.  Since that day, the Clippers have always fielded large squads and have been competitive in their division.  The team has seen Valedictorians, City Champions, State Meet Qualifiers and a City Record Holder.  Numerous Athletes have also had the honor of being recognized as NISCA Academic All Americans.

For almost a quarter of a century, the Clipper Team has developed into a group of athletes  with great pride and tradition.
